Philip Smedley qualified in Mathematics and has worked as a structural engineer for nearly 40 years, primarily in the offshore oil & gas industry but also working on marine safety, fatigue, mooring systems, offshore wind, and onshore civil engineering tasks. He is currently employed by bp in London, England, where he manages bp’s global structural engineers, covering projects, operations, and technology.

 

He is currently the Chairman of ISO/TC 67 and its UK mirror committee, having previously been the Chair for 9 years of its subcommittee for offshore structures.
